Jr. NBA Coach of the Year

Jr. NBA Coach of the Year Nomination

The Jr. NBA Coach of the Year program celebrates youth basketball coaches that honor the game by demonstrating leadership and integrity, exhibiting a positive attitude towards all players, coaches, parents, and referees, and creating a lasting impact on young people both on and off the court.

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR 2023

2022 – Nets Coach of the Year

Coach Carlton Screen

Coach Screen has lived in Brooklyn for over 70 years. At his time for Erasmus he won PSAL City Championship in 1965 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Screen has devoted his life to coaching making stops with Holy Innocents Church, Crown Heights Youth Collective and Flatbush Beacon. In 1992, Coach formed the Flatbush Youth Association (FYA) where he runs basketball training for boys and girls. FYA is still flourishing to this day!

2021 – Nets Coach of the Year

Coach Sarah Horowitz

Sarah began working with young girls in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, drilling them on the basics of the game.  By her Junior year, she began working as an assistant coach for every level of basketball offered at the high school from where she graduated (that is five separate teams!).  She also expanded her private clinics to a local community league under the name “Little Ballers.”  Though relatively young herself, she is already a shining light to hundreds of young girls, teaching them not only how to play the game right, but how to be a quality individual in everything they do!

2020 – Nets Coach of the Year

Coach James Pristouris

We’re proud to recognize Coach James Pristouris as the Jr. NBA Brooklyn Nets Basketball Academy Coach of the Year. As a long-time coach in his local Brooklyn parish and founder of The Super League Athletic Academy, James leads by example with lessons and sportsmanship and teamwork, emphasizing the development and experience of his players over wins and losses. His passion and love for the game has been passed on to players who return to assist with the program for the next generation. Congratulations to Coach Pistrouris and thank you for all your work on behalf of Brooklyn basketball and the community.
